The above modular Ocean Breeze chiller is designed for retrofit or new yacht installation, from small yachts to mega yachts. Typical lead time is 6 weeks from the time our draftsman measures the existing equipment aboard the yacht to the completion of the installation. Drawings in SolidWorks format from our engineering department are then submitted for approval along with complete electrical system design. The completed modular chillers are then assembled and tested in the factory, disassembled prior to delivery, and then reassembled aboard the yacht. Average installation by a two-man team takes about 10-14 days. |

Do not use CPVC (chlorinated polyvinyl chloride) piping with a chiller system which uses polyolester (POE) oil. Refrigerant leaks in the evaporator/heat exchanger may release polyolester (POE) oil and refrigerant into the chilled water piping. Polyolester (POE) oil and refrigerants break down into acidic compounds (including the sludge-like heptanoic and isononanoic acids) when exposed to water and are therefore incompatible with CPVC (chlorinated polyvinyl chloride) pipes. Exposure to these acidic contaminates may result in pipe softening, degradation, cracking, and failure, especially in areas where the piping is under stress. Polyvinyl ether (PVE) oil is compatible and will not degrade CPVC (chlorinated polyvinyl chloride) piping. It is recommended to drain and flush out any and all chilled water piping when upgrading from a polyolester (POE) oil or mineral oil system to a system which uses polyvinyl ether (PVE) oil. |
¾" insulation recommended. *Pump selection is very important. Insufficient water flow can cause the condenser coil to reach higher temperatures, accelerate corrosion of the condenser coil, decrease compressor efficiency, and decrease the overall lifespan of the compressor. |
Inadequate water flow will fail to flood the coil and does not have enough pressure to push out air. It will also be unable to cool the condenser and fail to carry away heat from the unit. Failing to flood the condenser will leave air pockets with a turbulent water surface which aerates the water with air bubbles. If the pressure is too low and below the vapor pressure of water, cavitation inception will occur and bubbles will form from dissolved air and water vapor. Air bubbles are caused by cavitation and can cause mechanical erosion from shockwaves from the imploding bubbles. The shockwaves can erode the protective cuprous oxide layer on the cupro-nickel. Without the protective cuprous oxide layer, harmful chemicals such as hydrogen sulfide gas, dissolved in water contaminated by sewage and bacteria, will leave the copper vulnerable to corrosion. Insufficient water flow can cause the condenser coil to reach higher temperatures which can accelerate corrosion reactions. |
